Established in 2003, Al-Furqaan Foundation is an international dawah organization dedicated to sharing the timeless message of the Quran and upholding its five essential rights for Muslims: belief, recitation, understanding, action, and propagation. Headquartered in suburbs of Chicago, Illinois, the Foundation operates as a non-profit, tax-exempt entity with multiple business units focused on publishing, education, outreach, and dawah service. Our mission is to serve the American Muslim community and beyond through impactful projects that promote Quranic literacy and engagement.
Job Summary
The Editor-in-Chief is a senior leadership role responsible for the strategic direction, creative vision, and operational excellence of Al-Furqaan Foundation’s entire publishing division. This position combines editorial leadership with publishing management, overseeing all print, digital, audio, and curriculum content while driving innovation, quality, and alignment with the Foundation’s mission.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute a comprehensive publishing strategy aligned with the Foundation’s mission and growth goals.
Lead long-term planning for book series, translations, educational products, and multimedia projects.
Evaluate emerging markets, digital tools, and global distribution opportunities.
Editorial Oversight
Uphold editorial excellence across all titles, ensuring clarity, authenticity, and impact.
Supervise editorial teams handling Qur’an translations, children’s books, curriculum, and digital media.
Review and approve final manuscripts, covers, and product messaging.
Publishing Operations
Oversee production schedules, budgets, and workflows from concept to release.
Coordinate with internal creative, design, and marketing teams for cohesive branding.
Manage relationships with translators, authors, narrators, printers, and distributors.
Innovation & Growth
Expand the Foundation’s reach through audiobooks, e-books, and emerging platforms.
Identify strategic partnerships with international publishers, bookstores, and educational institutions.
Lead R&D for new publishing technologies and processes.
Team Development
Build and mentor a multidisciplinary publishing team: editors, designers, producers, and marketing liaisons.
Create systems for quality control, performance reviews, and professional growth.
Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
8–10+ years of publishing, editorial, or communications leadership experience (nonprofit or faith-based preferred).
Strong background in both editorial judgment and publishing management.
Proven ability to oversee multi-format publishing: print, digital, and audio.
Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and decision-making skills.
Deep understanding of Islamic literature, education, and community impact.
Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in publishing, communications, or a related field preferred.
Authorized to work in the United States.
Salary commensurate with experience and aligned with non-profit Islamic organization scales.
