Al-Furqaan Foundation is seeking a qualified Independent Contractor to review and proofread a French translation of The Quran. The contractor will be responsible for evaluating the translation for linguistic accuracy, consistency, clarity, and faithfulness to the meanings of The Quran translation, while ensuring alignment with established Islamic scholarship.
This is a project-based contract position and does not constitute employment with the Foundation.
Scope of Work
The Contractor will:
Review and proofread a French translation of The Quran and related materials.
Compare the French translation against the original Arabic text and, where applicable, approved English translations and reference materials.
Identify and correct linguistic, grammatical, stylistic, and formatting issues.
Verify the accuracy and consistency of Quranic terminology, Islamic concepts, and religious expressions.
Provide recommendations for revisions to improve clarity, readability, and faithfulness to the intended meaning.
Document edits, comments, and translation concerns in an organized manner.
Collaborate with designated project stakeholders to address translation questions and review feedback.
Complete assigned portions of the project within agreed-upon timelines.
Required Qualifications
Fluency in French, Arabic, and English (written and spoken).
Demonstrated experience translating, reviewing, or proofreading Arabic Islamic texts in French.
Strong understanding of classical and contemporary Quranic terminology.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to linguistic and scholarly accuracy.
Ability to work independently and meet project deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate of a recognized Islamic institution.
Formal Islamic education with a strong foundation in Quranic studies, Tafsir, Arabic language, and Islamic sciences.
Prior experience reviewing or translating Quran translations.
Experience working with Islamic publications, dawah organizations, or scholarly translation projects.
Familiarity with translation review methodologies and editorial standards.

Al-Furqaan Foundation reserves the right to assign specific portions of the translation project and establish project milestones, deliverables, and review timelines as needed.
